"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

“Five Haikus, Going” from My Fall from the Clouds

I have always known
the lines and symmetry of
your space-age shadow.

These clean, young sidewalks
with the familiar, reek –
repel my soles out.

Remember rooftops,
and orange spice tingling
on our tongues, in air?

Spatting and groaning
this small, teal automobile
can’t go far enough.

I reach the soil
and reach and reach and reach down
and find my feet there.

Joy embraces happiness and sorrow and will not let you escape either.
Joy is a praise lifted to the creator of the tumultuous sea.
Joy is hands in soft hair and knowing something’s there.
